Poetic Terms That Start with the Letter V

Verse - The poetry term of poetry terms. Verse is a line of poetry as opposed to prose. Even prose poetry would not constitute verse.

Villanelle - One of the many poetry terms that is a reference to a form. A villanelle is a French poetry form crafted in five triplets followed by a quatrain.
The first and third lines of the first stanza repeat alternately throughout the next four and appear finally as the last two lines of the poem, the first line of the first triplet as line three and the third line of the first triplet as the final line.
Additionally, the villanelle follows a carefully constructed rhyme scheme, as such: aba aba aba aba aba abaa.
Example: Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas is one of the most famous villanelles ever constructed.
